A film loathed by communists and banned by fascists We The Living will premiere exclusively at the (VERY trendy) Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square on Wednesday, December 13th, from 4:45 PM.
After the premiere, a drinks reception and (free) Christmas buffet will be held at All Bar One, Leicester Square (2 min walk from cinema). The London premiere of the film is a collaboration of Ayn Rand Center Europe and us, the Adam Smith Institute.
RSVP using this event form. If you are a student, please take a ‘student’ ticket. For everyone else, choose ‘standard’.
What Is The Movie About?
Originally written by Ayn Rand in 1936, “We the Living” represents a stirring ode to liberty and love. The novel inspired the director Goffredo Alessandrini to produce a movie that would be banned soon upon its release by the fascist government of Benito Mussolini due to its anti-totalitarian connotations.
The film was thought to have been forever destroyed, but luckily, it was found in the late sixties. Thanks to Duncan Scott, the film was restored and saw the light of day in 1986.
The plot takes place in Russia during the Red Revolution and follows the struggles of Kira Argounova, immortalised by Alida Valli on the silver screen, as she navigates her life within the new political system. Eternal motives of love, power, corruption and indomitable spirit of liberty permeate the film's plot, making it an ever-relevant piece of art.
